About
TakeHome is a take-home pay calculator for New Zealand, for anyone weighing a salary or checking what lands in their account after PAYE, ACC, KiwiSaver and student loan. The calculations use the rates in force for the current tax year, and every result is an estimate.

What TakeHome is
TakeHome is a take-home pay calculator for New Zealand. It starts from a gross salary or wage and subtracts what New Zealand really deducts — PAYE income tax, the ACC Earners’ Levy, your KiwiSaver contribution and any student-loan repayment — then adds the Independent Earner Tax Credit where you’re eligible, so you can see what actually lands in your account, per week, fortnight, month or year.
How the calculation works
Behind the calculator is a single, deliberate chain. It annualises your pay (a salary is already annual; a weekly or fortnightly figure is scaled up to a year), applies the progressive PAYE brackets with no tax-free threshold, adds the flat ACC Earners’ Levy up to its annual cap, and takes off the Independent Earner Tax Credit where you qualify. Then it applies your two opt-in deductions — your chosen KiwiSaver rate and, if you have one, your student-loan repayment — and divides the result back down to your pay period. Your employer’s KiwiSaver contribution and the ESCT on it are shown separately, as employer costs, and are never subtracted from your take-home.
The sources behind the numbers
Every rate and threshold is transcribed from a primary source, with a verbatim quote kept on file. The decisive one for a payroll calculator is Inland Revenue’s Payroll Calculations & Business Rules Specification — the document payroll-software vendors implement — supported by Inland Revenue’s public pages on tax rates, the ACC levy, the IETC, KiwiSaver and student loans, and by Employment New Zealand for the minimum wage. The figures are for the 2026/27 tax year (1 April 2026 to 31 March 2027); New Zealand’s tax year runs 1 April to 31 March, not the calendar year.
Honesty stance
The figures are the rates in force for the 2026/27 tax year, but they have not been through this site’s own review and sign-off — so they should not be used for a real decision until that sign-off happens. Results are informational and educational, not tax, financial or legal advice. TakeHome is not a substitute for Inland Revenue, a tax agent or your payroll team — for an official figure, turn to them. The site sets no cookies and shows no advertising; visits are measured with Google Analytics 4, which runs without cookies or any identifier for you.
